Horrorshow

By Robert Allen

We were always
monsters seeking
the last bite

the last taste
of our undoing
One day joy

stepped in
to our vampire love
Let’s find a fountain

of blood and jump
into it
Let’s find a coffin

with no key
and lock ourselves
into submission

Let’s chew each other’s
golden bones to
satisfy our hunger

Let’s take all the world’s
fantastical beasts under our breasts
and stain our skin vermillion

Creature-comforted, desire
met, we fall into the fountain
and swim to our death
