Flexible Light at the Cabin

By David C. Porter

Whos there he says
No answer

Is someone there he says
No answer

What do you want
What are you looking for

I heard you he says
No answer

Dust motes flicker
Stale drip

Drip again
The floorboards sigh

Thick air
Some insects

I have a gun he says
No answer

Im not afraid to he starts
Wait someone says

Boy steps into doorway
Holding his hands up

Dont shoot boy says
Im just a camp counselor

I didnt know anyone was in here
It was a mistake honest

Let me go boy says
I wont tell anyone what I saw

What do you mean he says
Do you think you saw something

No I didnt see anything boy says
The light was in my eyes

You must have seen something he says
Otherwise this wouldnt be happening to you

The boy keeps his hands up
Doesnt have an answer
